GLOSSY WATER-BASED PRIMER SUITABLE FOR “Shou Sugi Ban”

ELE SHOU Pro

Water-based impregnating agent with bright colours, suitable for the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique.

First of all, it must be noted that the wood to be treated must already be in the shape it will be used for and must already have the necessary measurements; if, for example, the boards need to be shortened during assembly, the treatment must also be possible on the cut edge, using the same method.

Carbonization

To better control the degree of charring and ensure it's evenly distributed, it's common to use a torch with an LPG gas cylinder, like those used to weld bituminous membranes in construction. The wood should be completely blackened, but if you don't specifically want a "char" effect, experts say a thin surface layer is sufficient to ensure the wood's resistance.

Brush

To continue with the Shou Sugi Ban technique, the detached layer of carbonization must be removed with a wire brush and then a sorghum or plastic one.

Running water

The boards are then washed with running water to remove all residue from the cracks.

Natural oil or finish

Once completely dry, apply ELE TEAK OIL natural oil or ELE SATIN WP/SEMIGLOSS WP finish.

APPLICATION

Stir the product well before use. We recommend applying one to three coats with a brush; a minimum of 50 g/m2 and a maximum of 80 g/m2, with 4-hour intervals. No further overpainting is required. Application must be carried out at a minimum temperature of 15°C, both for the product and the surrounding environment.
